leblonЧитаю сейчас книжку "Galileo's Gout: Science in an age of Endarkment", by Gerald Weissmann. Это собрание эссе по истории науки, в основном - по медицине и биологии, поскольку автор - медик. Ну и еще там довольно много полемики против американских "правых" и "консервативного лобби". Книга местами довольно интересная. Узнал из нее несколько любопытных цифр и фактов. Например, что астрологов в США намного больше, чем астрономов (более чем в 10 раз). Или вот такой очаровательный анекдот о Жаке Лебе, который первый смог инициировать партеногенез у морского ежа химическим путем, а потом добился того же в отношении лягушек:
