Wall Street Journal vs Steven Weinberg
Feb. 16th, 2015 05:13 pm"Wall Street Journal" published a rather negative review of an upcoming book by Steven Weinberg, one of my scientific heroes. The book is called "To Explain the World" and is Weinberg's personal view of the history of science. The book will be available starting tomorrow. The reviewer, a historian of science, was clearly annoyed by Weinberg's presumptiousness and his dismissive attitutude to revered figures, such as Aristotle and Thomas Kuhn, as well as to religion. But the review was at least civil. The readers' comments to the review, however, were almost uniformly insulting to Weinberg: he is a fool, he is doctrinaire, he should stick to particle physics. I posted a comment too, politely pointing out that to have an intelligent opinion about a book one should read it first. Two hours later my comment was deleted! Does WSJ have some problem with Weinberg's worldview?
