The Greatest Generation
Mar. 16th, 2025 06:07 pm Помните фильм Oh Brother Where Art Thou и и одного из героев, толстого коррумпированного мэра? Этот довольно известный актер ранее в Tootsie сыграл. Так вот, оказывается у него интересная биография:
Charles Durning, U.S. Army (1923–2012) — A character actor who appeared in films such as "The Sting" (1973), "Tootsie" (1982) and "To Be or Not to Be" (1984), Charles Durning was also a war hero. Acting, he said, helped him to process the psychological trauma of his World War II experiences. Durning was in the first wave of troops to land at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and his unit's sole survivor after a German ambush. He was wounded on three occasions, once in hand-to-hand combat. During the Battle of the Bulge, his company was captured and forced to march through the Malmedy Forest; in the "Malmedy massacre," German troops opened fire on the prisoners, and Durning was among only a few who escaped. In addition to three Purple Heart medals, Durning received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and, in 2008, the French Legion of Honor. He declined to discuss his war experiences until late in his life.
